With three rows of comfort and seating for up to eight, the 2023 Ford Expedition is the definition of a family cruiser. But how you power your Expedition is important, as it will decide how much you can tow and how far you can go with your new three-row SUV. Here, Harbin Automotive will take a look at the Ford Expedition powertrain options and specs so you can find the perfect three-row SUV for your Scottsboro lifestyle.
What’s Under the Hood?
With each new 2023 Ford Expedition model, you’ll find a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the wheels. However, there are different configurations of this setup that will change the power output you bring home to Hollywood.
In most Expedition models you’ll have 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque at your disposal. This configuration is good for up to 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive, and 16 mpg city and 21 mpg highway with 4x4 capability.
Meanwhile, the Expedition Limited gets 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque from the twin-turbo V6 setup, which drops fuel economy a further one mpg for both city and highway efficiency.
Finally, the Ford Expedition Timberline and Limited Stealth models get an ultra-high output version of the V6 TT, churning out 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. That takes the three-row Expedition to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds.
Towing in the standard Expedition rates at 9,300 pounds, so it can easily tow a boat or camper on your next road trip out of Dutton or Fackler. However, if you choose the Expedition Max you’ll lose 300 pounds of towing capability.
